Hello and welcome to the first post! I'm going to start right off with:
Warning: This blog may tick off, offend, confuse or even disturb you. If you have difficulty thinking calmly while someone insults your cherished personal beliefs - then you might want to go somewhere less dangerous.
With that out of the way, let me tell you what to expect from me:
1. Articles here will be based in logic, science, reason - and sometimes politics. They will not be based in emotion or subjective concepts such as beauty.
2. I won't be "slamming" any particular religions: There's plenty of other places to read that, and I don't consider it valid debate.
3. All belief systems relying on faith are considered equivalent here. As far as I'm concerned, there is no difference between ancient "pagan" religions, "folk" beliefs (such as astrology), and contemporary religions.
4. I will not be advocating any "compatible" positions with religion, or "common ground" in any form. Over the course of these articles, you will see the consistent assertion that faith and all of its by products are either of no productive value (though costly), or are detrimental to the individual, culture or species.
5. This blog has nothing to do with Sam Harris' excellent book "The End of Faith" - it's just a common (and growing) sentiment, that's all.
Comments!
Well there surely would be! But if it's got any of these, I'm going to toss it:
* Expletives (though the occasional %$#@ may be permitted)
* Brimstone-style "burn in hell" sort of stuff
* Your religion's slogan ("X bless you") - no offence but just leave it off and we'll be fine
Although I don't have a problem if you want to reference something (you should!) that supports an argument, please don't just quote hellfire verses from a scripture, okay?
I have also added response options, which let you quickly register each post positive or negative for logic and/or bullshit. Handy.
One last thought
How awesome is it that we're at least to the point where we can talk about these things without imminent fear of being burned alive at the stake? We've come a long way, baby...but we have a lot further to go.
Let's get going.

ReplyDeleteYou are off to a crackling start, sir! If only more theists believed as you so capably demonstrate: the idea that God is provable is absolutely a nonsense concept! "God theory" indeed.
Loved the crayola link...one of my favorite sites.
Very nice.... Looking forward for some posts.
